Celebrating Pathway to Podium

Earlier this month an event was held at the Utilita Arena, celebrating the ongoing success and impact of the Pathway to Podium programme.

Pathway to Podium was launched in 2020, and has been designed to recognise and encourage physical education, school sport and physical activity (PESSPA). Schools are assessed and supported to develop an action plan that enhances their school offer in PESSPA, improving the outcomes for young people. To date, over 90 schools have been involved in the programme.

Eleven schools from across the city participated in the event. Various sport and physical activity providers and organisations provided activities for the school children on the day. Providers taking part were Public Health, The Active Well-Being Society, BCC Leisure, Teach Active, Aston Villa Foundation, Pickleball England, England Athletics, Rugby Football Union, Stormbreak, The Daily Mile, Ways for Well-Being and Spark Active.

The event allowed schools to connect with new providers, and expand and improve their PESSPA offer. The day allowed providers to showcase a selection of engaging and imaginative ways to encourage young people to be active. The event also provided a chance for school staff teams to network and gain knowledge and opportunities.
