The Make a Difference Team (MAD) and Active Birmingham Anchors have been involved in providing opportunities to get more active across Birmingham. St. Paul’s Community Development Trust is one of the Active Birmingham anchor organisations. St. Paul’s recently shared with us a detailed case study featuring one of the young people who’s personal development and activity levels have been transformed by their Play Scheme, Urban Sports Day and roller-skating sessions. Check out some of these quotes from their case study documenting the young person’s journey.
“Observed during her first session in January 2024, AK initially displayed nervousness and fear of falling. Her progression, however, is a testament to her resilience and resourcefulness. Through structured instruction and personal perseverance, AK not only developed her roller-skating skills but also navigated financial and logistical barriers to continue her passion.….
After the playscheme was over, AK had no other opportunity to try Roller Skating again, until St. Paul’s hosted an Urban Sports Day on the 14th February 2024. After a long gap since her last session she had become a little rusty and had more falls than when she first started! However, AK powered through and still kept trying. This being a free event she was able to take part without the barriers of costs.….
Since AK’s first session through the roller-skating club she has progressed significantly in her roller-skating skills…..These six-week sessions have allowed her to develop and use her skills to skate in places outside of the sessions such as the park, St Paul’s Venture Pitch, and along her road. Despite the change in types of floors she has been able to confidently skate on whatever free and safe area she can find…. She has been using social media platforms to learn new manoeuvres in her own time and is eager to learn how to dance on skates.“
