Sport Birmingham are excited to announce that Mark Taylor has become the new Chair of the organisation, and will lead the Board of Trustees and support the Chief Executive into the next decade of organisation’s growth and development.
Sport Birmingham is the Active Partnership for Birmingham and Sport England’s ‘System Partner’, working collaboratively with local, regional, and national partners to maximize the positive impact that physical activity and sport can make to people and communities. Sport Birmingham are committed to tackling inequality, promoting diversity, and improving opportunity by addressing the barriers to being physically active; prioritising those most inactive audiences and places with the greatest social need and lowest activity levels.
Mike Chamberlain, Chief Executive said:
Mark has both the passion and the proven leadership skills to make a big difference, and he has already proven himself as a committed Board member; his connectivity and credibility in Birmingham is significant and I’m very much looking forward to the next chapter with Mark at the helm.
Mark is one of the Co-Founders of business advisory boutique, Element45 and has over 23 years’ experience of working in the accounting and business advisory sector, including 17 years as a partner at RSM UK; additionally, Mark has recently stood down as an elected member of the Council of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce after serving for six years.
Leading the Board of Sport Birmingham enables Mark to combine two of his major passions – sports participation (for fun and to develop life skills) and the building of a better Birmingham – to help make a real difference to the lives of people in the city.
Mark said:
I am very proud and honoured to have been chosen by a panel of my fellow trustees to become the new Chair of Sport Birmingham. I very much look forward to working with the fabulous members of the SB team and the brilliant, diverse group of trustees we have, to take the organisation on to achieving new goals and benefiting many more lives.
As a large proportion of our funding comes from Sport England, part of income diversification plan is to broaden the portfolio of commercial partners we collaborate with. There are great opportunities for businesses to work with us to contribute to our hugely important mission and make a real impact in local communities.
Sport Birmingham will be marking their ten-year anniversary, celebrating through a new Community Celebration Awards event at Edgbaston on 21st November. This will also be a great time to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of the organisation in its first decade. We look forward to continuing to build on that legacy with Mark and the wider team.
