The latest SAFE Programme Impact Report has been released, highlighting another successful year of supporting young people across Birmingham schools.
Commissioned by Birmingham City Council’s SAFE Taskforce and delivered by Sport Birmingham through Make a Difference, the SAFE Programme provides targeted early intervention and prevention support for young people facing challenges related to confidence, emotional wellbeing, behaviour, relationships and engagement with education. Working closely with schools, the programme delivers tailored support through one-to-one mentoring, social skills development and positive enrichment opportunities.
The latest report demonstrates the programme’s continued growth and impact, with 119 young people referred into SAFE across five school settings and 12 Social Skills cohorts delivered, generating 797 total attendances.
Feedback from participants highlights the difference SAFE is making in young people’s lives. Impressively, 100% of surveyed young people said they would recommend SAFE, while 97% reported that the programme helped them overall. In addition, 84% said SAFE had increased their confidence, reflecting the programme’s success in empowering young people to overcome challenges and reach their potential.
The report also showcases positive outcomes in communication, resilience, emotional wellbeing, confidence and engagement with education, achieved through a combination of trusted mentoring relationships, group interventions and wider opportunities including holiday camps, girls’ football sessions and celebration events.
As SAFE continues to go from strength to strength, the programme leaves a lasting legacy of stronger partnerships with schools, improved outcomes for young people and greater opportunities for them to thrive in their schools, homes and communities.
