Public Health England: Better Health – Every Mind Matters

COVID-19 has impacted the whole country; for almost everyone, life has had to change fundamentally. Research shows that since the start of the pandemic there has been an increase in a range of mental health conditions for adults, from low wellbeing, sleep problems and anxiety to depression.

But there are things that people can do to support their mental health and wellbeing at this time.

On the 18th of January 2021, Public Health England launched their Better Health – Every Mind Matters campaign to support the nation’s mental wellbeing with the encouragement that “When things aren’t so good out there, make inside better”.

There are a wide range of campaign resources and tools that can be found here, as well as a Your Mind Plan quiz which provides tips and advice to support you with your mental health and wellbeing.

MIND – Mental Health & Physical Activity Toolkit

Our friends at MIND have launched a new Mental Health & Physical Activity Toolkit, aimed at helping sport, physical activity and mental health providers to support and engage people experiencing mental health problems in physical activity.

The Toolkit consists of 10 guides, with each guide providing tools, templates, guidance and good practice case studies to help organisations provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for people experiencing mental health problems to be physically active.

The Male Menopause and Mental Health

Our friends at Optimale have put together this helpful guide to better understand male menopause conditions and their effects on men’s mental health.

Male menopause can be a difficult time for older men, with symptoms beginning to affect their well-being and with the COVID-19 pandemic halting normal life, it can have an even bigger impact on mental health.

The full version of the guide can be found at:

Understanding the Male Menopause and Mental Health
https://www.optimale.co.uk/trt/trt-manual/male-menopause-mental-health-guide/

It covers important topics such as:

  • Understanding “male menopause” – separating facts from fiction and why it can be misleading (and harmful) to group the different changes and conditions affecting men as they age under this label.
  • The physical and emotional changes associated with male menopause and why men should always seek a proper medical diagnosis for said symptoms.
  • The effect on men’s mental wellbeing – from memory loss and lowered libido to secondary effects like fatigue, insomnia, and irrationality – and their impact on daily life.
  • Helpful tips and advice for managing symptoms, lifestyle changes and treatments that can help, and other useful information.
