About Sutton Coldfield Charitable Trust

Objectives of Fund

The principal objective of the Trust is the provision of almshouses, and the Trustees' first duty is the maintenance of its 46 almshouses.

Grants are also available for local charitable organisations within the Sutton Coldfield area of Birmingham working in one of the following areas: amateur sport, arts, culture, heritage and science, citizenship, education, environment, health or the saving of lives, relief of those in need and religion, as well as for individual applicants who are in need.

Further objectives of the Charities are:

  • To help the aged, the sick, those with disabilities, and the poor.
  • To support facilities for recreation and leisure.
  • To promote the arts and advance religion.
  • The repair of historic buildings.
  • The advancement of education through grants to schools, and individuals for fees, maintenance, clothing and equipment.

Funding is at the discretion of the Trustees.

There are three types of grants that this trust provides, each with different funding criteria which is as follows:

Grants for Organisations are made in the form of a monetary grant. When a funding amount of less than £30,000 is applied for, the committee will make a decision and the applicant will learn the nature of this decision as soon as possible. However, when a grant is requested that is worth over £30,000, the committee will consider them and may refer these applications to the full Board of Trustees who will make the final decision. The Board of Trustees meet on a quarterly basis.

Grants for Individuals are also made in the form of a monetary grant. These grants are intended to assist with the purchase of essential equipment, to help people with disabilities, to help with education after normal schooling, to help people with long term health problems and to meet other needs.

Grants for School Clothing are made in the form of vouchers that can be redeemed at the following stores: BHS, Gracechurch Centre, Sutton Coldfield and/or Clive Mark Schoolwear and Wylde Green. The value of this grant is £75 per child. The maximum that a parent can claim is £300 (for a family with four children).
